vacation - day 1

We decided to go on a short vacation, to celebrate our anniversary, enjoy being just the 2 of us before the baby, and just because. We decided on Chattanooga because it is reasonably close and had lots to offer.

We left on Sunday and stopped at Chickamauga Battlefield and Park. This is the second bloodiest battle from the civil war and part of the campaign for Chattanooga. I expected it to be a short rest stop visit. We stayed for 5 hours. There was a visitors center we visited where we watched a video about the battle, and witnessed a demonstration of rifle shooting.

The battlefield was designated a national park in 1890, soon after a group of blue and grey veterans returned to the battlefield to remember and mark the area where the movement and regiments were stationed. These markers remain and allow us to see what happen. Cannons, cannonball piles, and other markers were designated to represent various groups and events. Very informational. There was also a cellphone tour you could call in at the tour stops to learn more about the movement and historical significance.
